The Fight for Ownership of Your Personal Data is about to Begin

As we incorporate more technology into our lives, we’re also creating an unprecedented amount of data. What is all this data really worth? Corporations often make millions from collecting and subsequently selling consumer data. The more data consumers produce, the more we need corporations to take an ethical stance on protecting all of it.

Online advertising is only one way consumer data is used for profit. While it’s the most common use and mostly a nuisance today, the potential applications and implications of consumer data exploitation can become much more dangerous in the future. In order to protect themselves, consumers must take a more active role in their data security by consciously limiting their technology use to companies that demonstrate dedication to consumer privacy.
